House Republicans have passed legislation that would raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2022.
The bill, which passed a House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday, is a $1.2 trillion stimulus package that would expand health care coverage and increase the minimum wage for low-wage workers.
The legislation, which also includes $1 trillion in spending for the Veterans Administration and other federal programs, passed with bipartisan support and has the support of all 50 House Republicans.
The $15 wage proposal would also increase the maximum hours a worker could work and increase overtime pay to $50 an hour.
I applaud Speaker Ryan and the House Republicans for taking bold action to provide more economic security to our families, and I urge the president to sign the bill.”
